On May 27th, a delegation of NYSWA Officers and Board Members met with elected leaders of the State Senate, Assembly and the Governor’s Staff in Albany. NYSWA spent the day with wireless carrier government affairs professionals and shared the industry’s message – that the wireless sector’s economic contributions and favorable state regulatory environments are critical for growth. NYSWA impressed upon New York’s leaders that a competitive model in the wireless industry has been good for consumers, who enjoy greater access to mobile services and lower prices, NYSWA’s members, and in particular, small businesses that provide high quality paying jobs, and State and local governments continued investment in New York’s wireless economy, through the billions of dollars in taxes collected through the commercial wireless industry – more than $7.4 billion to be exact.
NYSWA President, Christopher Fisher remarked “Our message on behalf of NYSWA members both large and small was very well received in Albany. Our conversations highlighted the important contributions of mobile broadband to State and local economies and how stable regulatory environments and favorable governmental policies can stimulate continued investment for the benefit of all New Yorkers.” “The opportunity to speak with so many New York State elected leaders was energizing and we thank our wireless carrier partners for their assistance in organizing the day and their continued support of NYSWA”
